Manchester - Roberto Mancini admits that Manchester City are also aiming for the Champions League trophy this season. However, on top of the trophy, he prefers to prioritize the Premier League trophy.
Mancini was optimistic that the City could go far in the Champions League this season. But that's not its primary purpose. After a successful last season won the Premier League - the first title in 44 years - Mancini is determined to defend it.
"Of course the Champions League will be our target, but first we have to defend the championship title fight," he said as reported by the Guardian.
"I think we can go further in Europe this season. We obviously want to get away from the group stage and see how far we can go in the Champions League."
"But, retaining the league title is the most important."
City last season failed to qualify from the Champions League group phase. They then competed in the Europa League, but was eliminated in the round of 16 after losing on aggregate to Sporting Lisbon.
